“When your life shifts from the ordinary to the extraordinary, events take on an abstract pattern rather than a linear one. Your senses sharpen and you start to see and hear with your feelings. And somewhere between the logical and the abstract, new patterns emerge – where you are at the center – orchestrating a symphony as both conductor and magician of your own destiny. You do, after all, use the same wand.”

The Ancient Crystal Skulls
What Are They?
There is a Native American legend that says there are 13 ancient crystal skulls and that when they are all found, it will herald an age of peace and wisdom for all humanity.
A number of quartz crystal skulls were discovered by explorers in Central and South America in the early 1900’s. They are similar in appearance to a human skull. Their exact origin or age remains undetermined as quartz cannot be carbon dated. The most famous of these skulls is known as the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull. The late Frank Dorland, art conservator and bio crystallographer, had this to say in his book, Holy Ice:
“I saw immediately that it (the Mitchell Hedges Crystal Skull), displayed a feat of scientific optical achievement supposedly unknown to ancient races. With a few additional experiments we found that the skull was intentionally carved to perform a whole series of optical illusions by reflecting the lights from nearby fires in various locations.”
(Dorland, 1992, p. 14)
Dorland also reports that in 1970, he took the skull to the Hewlett Packard laboratories in Santa Monica, CA, where extensive research was performed. One of their findings was that the skull was crafted from a single piece of quartz crystal, carved against the grain in ways that are not fully understood.

From the Epilogue of Ancient Memories Future Dreams the Crystal Skull Diaries
I first met Anna Mitchell-Hedges in 1995 when she lived in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Many may know her story of how she discovered the crystal skull. But for those of you who do not, below is what she recounted to me on several occasions. Some do not believe Anna’s story. There is evidence to suggest that the skull was auctioned at Sotheby’s and that her adoptive father, F.A. Mitchell-Hedges, bought it several years after their expedition.
Anna explained to me that one of her father’s pastimes was buying and selling antiques, especially antique silver. When she was told that there were those who tried to discredit her story, she was deeply upset. Anna said that her father may have put the skull up for sale, as he often did with other pieces in his collection in order to raise money, and then after some years, may have bought it back. If this was the case then Anna’s story still holds.
Perhaps Mitchell-Hedges felt he had to auction and buy back the skull for political and/or other reasons of which we are not aware. We will never know the answer to these mysteries, so it is up to you, the reader, to decide what is fact or fiction.
The year was 1924 and Anna, a sixteen year-old girl, had accompanied her father on an expedition to Belize, then known as British Honduras. F.A. Mitchell-Hedges is said to have loved a good adventure and through the years travelled the world in search of ancient civilizations. It is said that the movie character Indiana Jones was partly based on Mitchell-Hedges’ real life adventures. An avid explorer, his desire on this particular journey was to find the remains of the lost continent of Atlantis, which at the time he believed to be in the area around the Cayman Islands, off the coast of Belize. Anna and her father had spent a lot of time with the Maya and they were now in a tiny place called Lubantuun.
Anna told me that it had been a hot day and her father and those that were with them on the expedition were having a siesta. But Anna wasn’t tired and the heat hadn’t bothered her. She wanted to look at where they were and so climbed on top of some stone ruins and took in the view. As she looked down, she saw something sparkling on the ground far below. Excited, she called to her father and told him that she had seen something shiny. He scolded her for having left the campsite as it could have been dangerous but she must have been very persuasive as the next day they started clearing a path through the jungle to get to the ruins.
On her seventeenth birthday, Anna found the skull. She was lowered down into the ruin and without knowing what it was that she had found, picked up the top half of the skull. She pressed the object closely to her chest and tugged on the rope that supported her – to be lifted back up to where the others were waiting. Back on firm ground, she proudly presented her find to her father. The Maya gathered in awe at what had been found. Her father soon realized that this was no ordinary object and one that was in fact highly revered. He gave this sacred object to the Mayan High Priest. The celebration lasted for days and people came from all around to join in the festivities. The crystal skull had been found!
Anna and her father stayed for three years and when it was time to return home, the High Priest handed a bundle to Mitchell-Hedges, saying that the skull would be better off if they took it with them – that it would be in safe hands. And so Anna, her father, and the ancient crystal skull travelled back to England – a journey and a destiny that has shaped what was to come.
